A new TV series based on the famous book by Gabriel García Márquez has appeared on Netflix. Definitely recommended for your Christmas holidays. What does this have to do with taxes?
I enjoyed your piece. Tax and 'One Hundred Years of Solitude'. I love the connection, and it makes complete sense. What happened in Macondo is a mirror on life and everything that happens in it and defines it. A country, war, power, corruption, love and the tension between it all. Tax is a borometer of people's intentions, good and (usually) bad. But I'd not realised how directly tax is referred to in the book. A beautiful revelation, and a new angle to grapple with.
I can't get past the first ten minutes of the series... But it's complicated for me. I will give it a go.
I made a film about Macondo and Marquez, that I'm bringing back from the analogue graveyard (it was made on film). You might find it interesting. ?
Thanks for reaching out. This made me think how small the world has become with all sorts of social media. Appreciate your kind words. And you managed to interview Marquez! Wow! Looking forward to read about your stories of filming 'My Macondo' and watching the film itself, of course. Especially I'd like to know more about "And there was a group of Norwegian dentists who invested at one point, looking for a tax dodge, we think…". Maybe it would make a nice 'Tax Story'.
